How a garage cleanout works

Open the door, take a photo from the driveway, and text it to us. That one picture is usually enough for a firm price. If there is a loft or a back corner we cannot see, send a second one.

Donation may be an option for usable items, subject to the receiving organization accepting them. Discuss the destination when booking. Receipts are available only if the organization issues one.

Most two-car garages take us about two hours and one trailer. A garage that has been the family storage unit for twenty years might take two loads, and we tell you that before we start.

What comes out of a Richmond garage

Leftover material from a renovation. The bikes the kids outgrew. A lawn mower that has not started in three summers. Boxes from the last move that never got opened. A treadmill. Paint cans from every color the house has ever been.

The paint question

This is the one thing that catches people. Dry latex paint is fine and goes with us. Wet oil-based paint, stains, thinners and gasoline are household hazardous waste, and we cannot put them on the trailer. Richmond and the counties each run drop-off days or sites for that. Garage Cleanouts questions

Do I need to sort anything first?

No, but it lowers the price if you pull out what you are keeping. A lot of people put keepers along one wall and tell us everything else goes. That works.

What about old paint?

Dried-out latex paint cans can go with the load. Wet oil-based paint, stains and solvents cannot. Richmond, Henrico and Chesterfield each run household hazardous waste drop-offs for those, and we can tell you where.

Can you take the shelving and the workbench too?

Yes. If you want the garage back to bare walls, say so. We unbolt shelving and break down a workbench in a few minutes.

Do you take a car?

No. We take everything around it.
